When a college says that it will eliminate loans for low-income students, does that include stafford loans?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | 1 Comment
In other words, if a college eliminates loans for a student, does that mean the student will not have to take out stafford, perkins or other federally subsidized loans? Are they getting a free ride? Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about emergency college loans/grants?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | 4 Comments
I had to take this semeser off of school because I owed money before I could register for classes. Needless to say I did not have it. I came back to my parents house to work but it is unrealistic to save up the amount of money I need to go back to school. I have tried loans but I have no credit and my parents have bad credit so we get turned down. I have been turned down by family members as cosigners. I have one year left and I just want to finish it up.

In about 2 years I plan to go to japan in between ending junoir college and starting 4 year. Mainly because I have wanted to go to japan for a long time and such. I plan to at least spend a year there, maybe 2 or more (depends). But I was wondering if I can use loans/schalorships to study abroad? Which hopefully will include housing and such.

What are some good options for loans for college?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | Comments Off
My son has taken out a loan each of the three years he’s been in college…I forget the name of it, but it only allow him to borrow so much (not very much). Obviously, he has no credit…he’s 20 with part time job. How can he borrow $20,000 for his last year in college? Also, the work study programs don’t seem to help…he gets about $100/month to be a lifeguard at the school pool…this doesn’t even pay for one book. Help, please!

Can I get a public loan for college? What are the best (cost effective for me after I graduate) loans to get?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | 3 Comments
OK, so I have already used stafford loans for college and I have done the FAFSA but I still need more to meet the cost of my tuition. I need to borrow a lot more. I’ve heard that alot of these private loans can rip students off with the high interest rates. What are the best loans I can get that do not have exorbitant interest rates?

Going to a University now and going back to community college, can my loans still be in forbearance?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | 1 Comment
I have student loans right now from going to a university for a year and want to go back to community college for a semester and pay for that by myself. Will I still be able to keep my loans on forbearance and not start paying them yet? I am going to go to school full time still at the community college.
I forgot to add I am in the University right now and never took time off I just want to go to the community college next semester.

Does the parents of college students usually co sign for loans?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | 5 Comments
My friends son and his ex wife has asked him to co sign for a college loan which is not re payable until the year 2012.
I do not understand college loans and he has asked me what I think of it. He believes he may be getting himself into some kind of a financial trap.
I did not know a college loan required a co signer. Does it?
He already payed for his 1st years tuition and his dorm fees and all that stuff. I do not want to give him mis information, but clearly he is concerned. Who do we ask about this for sound financial advice? Do you know anything about college loans for an 18 yr old child? Do you think he is being ripped off? Do the parents co sign a college loan for $6K not repayable for at least 5 yrs?

Is there a safe/secure private lender for college loans that does not require a co-signer or a credit check?
Filed Under College Loans FAQS | 3 Comments
I’ve maxed out school assistance and stafford loans. My parents won’t cosign or take out a PLUS loan. I only have a couple weeks left to come up with the money before I have to cancel my enrollment. Is there any way to get about $7K this semester and $5.5K next semester through a private/personal lender without a cosigner or credit check?
